Located on the shores of Lake Taupo the new house complements the old “bach” and provides holiday accommodation for larger family groups. The over-riding focus of the new house is the lake shore and view to the distant volcanic plateau. A set back of 5m from the shore boundary was stipulated in the planning rules.
The form follows the land contour and provides a living “terrace” elevated about 1 metre above the ground level and a sleeping”terrace” above which looks over the living area to the lake beyond.
Large sliding doors along the frontage open onto a large deck, ideal for long summer evenings. A monopitch roof hovers above the terraces and focuses the interior on the view.
